How to Rebuild Yourself While Supporting Your Family
The parent behind the parent matters. A gentle roadmap to caring for yourself without guilt — even in the hardest seasons.
Most parents I work with arrive with the same quiet sentence: "I don't even know who I am anymore." It is never said dramatically. It is said between logistics — after the therapy schedule, after the school email, after the list of things that must happen before Monday.
Rebuilding yourself does not mean stepping away from your child. It means widening the circle so there is room for you inside it. That begins with one small, protected practice a day: ten minutes that belong to nobody else.
From there we work on boundaries, on asking for help without apology, and on returning to the parts of your identity that existed before the diagnosis — the friend, the professional, the person who liked things simply because she liked them.
You are allowed to be a whole person and a devoted parent at the same time. In fact, your family needs both.
